In 2011 these authors charmed us with their debut novels, leaving us all in anticipation for what they’ll do next.
11. Tahereh Mafi, 23
The end of last year was a buzz with Shatter Me, the story of a girl with a lethal touch. Since her debut, Mafi has kept her fans engaged on Twitter and Tumblr. Currently, Mafi is on tour to promoting Shatter Me and released the name of the sequel, Unravel Me.
12. Veronica Roth, 22
The wildly popular Divergent started out as an assignment for a creative writing class. The novel has gained legions of faction obsessed fans and pushed Roth to the New York Times Bestseller List. The sequel Insurgent, was released earlier this month.
13. Victoria Schawb, 24
Inspired by her love of the archetypes and structure of fairy tales, Schwab wrote The Near Witch while at Washington University. The book was picked up and published by Hyperion during her last year in college. Schawb’s next novel, The Archived is coming out 2013.
14. Aimee Carter, 25
A University of Michigan alumnus, Carter’s first novel, The Goddess Test was published by Harlequin Teen. The novel is based on Carter’s life long interest in Greek mythology. The sequel The Goddess Interrupted came out this year and Carter has two more books due out in 2013.
15. Hannah Harrington, 24
Harrington’s debut novel is about the gripping aftermath of suicide and won a Gold Moonbeam Children’s Book Award in 2011. Harrington’s second novel, Speechless is due out in 2013 from Harlequin Teen.
